Terms of Service

The agreement between you and Logbook for using our app and website. Effective August 14, 2026.

The short version

Logbook is a fitness tracking app and website. By using it, you agree to these terms. Be honest about your age, don't try to break our systems or harm other users, and understand that our exercise content isn't medical advice — talk to a qualified professional before starting a new program. We do our best to keep the service running but can't promise perfection. If something here is unclear, email us.

1. Acceptance of these terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and Logbook ("Logbook," "we," "us," "our") governing your use of the Logbook iPhone application, the websites at logbook.net.nz and (when launched) logbook.club, the web companion at /app, the waitlist, and any related services (collectively, the "Service").

By creating an account, signing in, joining the waitlist, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (16 in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and certain other jurisdictions) to use the Service. If you're under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you confirm you have your parent or legal guardian's permission to use Logbook and that they have read and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.

You may not use the Service if you are barred from doing so under applicable law, or if your account has previously been terminated for violation of these Terms.

3. Your account

To use most features you'll create an account using email/password, Sign in with Apple, or Sign in with Google. You're responsible for:

  • Providing accurate registration information.
  • Keeping your password and authentication credentials secure.
  • All activity that happens under your account.
  • Notifying us at support@logbook.net.nz if you suspect unauthorised use of your account.

You can delete your account at any time from inside the iPhone app (Settings → Account → Delete account) or by visiting /delete-account if you have lost access to the app.

4. Health and safety disclaimer

Logbook is a training record, not medical advice. The information presented in the app — including workout templates, recovery models, RPE prompts, progress trends, and any educational content — is for general informational purposes only. It is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

Consult a qualified professional before starting any new exercise program — especially if you have any medical condition, injury, or are pregnant. Stop training and seek medical attention immediately if you experience pain, dizziness, shortness of breath, or any other concerning symptom during exercise.

You exercise at your own risk. By using Logbook, you acknowledge that physical exercise carries inherent risks of injury, and you assume full responsibility for those risks. Logbook is not liable for any injury, harm, or loss you may suffer in connection with exercise activities, programs, or advice you encounter through or alongside the Service.

5. License to use the Service

We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for your personal, non-commercial training purposes, subject to these Terms. This license terminates automatically if you violate these Terms.

6. Your content

You own the workout data, photos, posts, and other content you create in Logbook ("Your Content"). By submitting Your Content to the Service, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, and display Your Content solely as needed to provide the Service to you and to others you've shared it with (e.g., your club members).

We will not use Your Content for advertising, sell it to third parties, or use it to train AI models that benefit anyone other than you. If we ever change this, we'll ask for your explicit consent first.

You're responsible for Your Content. Don't post content that infringes others' rights, violates laws, harasses other users, or is otherwise prohibited by Section 7 below.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any illegal purpose or in violation of any applicable law.
  • Harass, threaten, intimidate, or abuse other users.
  • Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation.
  • Post content that is hateful, defamatory, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable.
  • Upload or transmit malware, viruses, or any code intended to damage or interfere with the Service.
  • Attempt to access accounts or data that are not yours.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service except as permitted by law.
  • Use bots, scrapers, or automated means to access or extract data from the Service.
  • Resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit any part of the Service.
  • Interfere with the Service's operation or other users' enjoyment of it.
  • Submit false, misleading, or fraudulent information (including fake workouts to manipulate clubs or leaderboards).

Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. Logbook has zero tolerance for objectionable content — including content that is unlawful, harassing, hateful, defamatory, obscene, sexually explicit, or violent — and for abusive behaviour toward other users. You can report objectionable content or an abusive user at any time using the in-app Report action available on every post, comment, profile, challenge, club chat message, and direct message, or by emailing support@logbook.net.nz. You can also block any user from their profile so they can no longer contact you or see your content.

We review every report and will remove objectionable content and suspend or remove the accounts of abusive users, typically within 24 hours of the report. Accounts that violate these rules may be permanently banned, and for serious violations we act immediately and without prior notice. We filter submissions for the most egregious prohibited content at the point of posting, but reporting is the primary way we keep the community safe — please use it.

8. Clubs, posts, and shared content

Logbook lets you create and join invite-only clubs and share workouts with club members. When you share a workout to a club, members can see, react to, and comment on it. Don't share content you wouldn't want those members to see.

Club owners can remove members and delete posts within their club. If you create a club, you're responsible for moderating it — if a club becomes a vector for harassment or other prohibited content, we may shut it down and remove the owner.

9. Intellectual property

The Service — including its software, design, brand assets, copy, and trademarks — is owned by Logbook and protected by intellectual property laws. We don't grant you any rights to our IP except the limited license in Section 5. Don't use the Logbook name or logo without our written permission.

If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, send a notice to legal@logbook.net.nz with the information required by the DMCA (or your jurisdiction's equivalent): identification of the work, identification of the infringing material, your contact information, a good-faith statement, and a sworn statement of accuracy.

10. Pricing and changes

The core Logbook training journal is free to use at launch. We may introduce paid features in the future. If we do, we'll publish the details before charging you, and any paid features will be opt-in. We won't change the price of an active subscription without notifying you in advance and giving you a way to cancel.

11. Third-party services

Logbook integrates with third-party services (Apple, Google/Firebase, HealthKit, push notification providers, email services). Your use of those services is also subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. We're not responsible for third-party services or content.

12. Termination

You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We can suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, if your use poses a risk to other users or the Service, or if we are required to do so by law.

On termination, the licenses you've granted us survive only as needed to enforce these Terms or comply with law. Sections 4, 6 (last paragraph), 9, 13, 14, 15, and 17 survive termination.

13. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including (without limitation) warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or uninterrupted operation. We don't warrant that the Service will be error-free, secure, or always available.

We do not endorse and are not responsible for content, workouts, programs, or advice posted by other users or by third parties.

14. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Logbook and its directors, officers, employees, and contractors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service.

Our total liability to you for any claim related to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) USD $50.

Some jurisdictions don't allow these limitations. In those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

15. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Logbook and its representatives from any claim, demand, loss, or damage (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of (a) your use of the Service, (b) your violation of these Terms, (c) Your Content, or (d) your violation of any third-party rights.

16. Apple-specific terms (iPhone app)

If you downloaded Logbook from the Apple App Store, the following additional terms apply:

  • These Terms are between you and Logbook only — not Apple. Logbook (not Apple) is solely responsible for the app and its content.
  • The license granted to you in Section 5 is limited to using the app on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, in accordance with the App Store Terms of Service.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
  • If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any) for the app. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation.
  • We (not Apple) are responsible for addressing any claims relating to the app.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

17. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be resolved in the courts of New Zealand, except that you may bring claims in your local jurisdiction if applicable consumer law requires it.

(If Logbook is operated by a different legal entity at the time you read this, that entity's local law and courts apply. We'll note it here when that changes.)

18. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced via in-app notification or email at least 14 days before they take effect. Your continued use of the Service after the new Terms take effect means you accept the changes. If you don't agree, stop using the Service and delete your account.

19. Miscellaneous

If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a right doesn't waive it. You can't transfer these Terms without our written consent; we can transfer them as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. These Terms (together with our Privacy Policy) are the entire agreement between you and Logbook concerning the Service.
