Why Logbook exists

Most fitness apps treat strength training as a secondary use case. The result is the same every time: logging feels heavy, progress hides in the wrong place, and the social layer becomes louder than the training itself.

Logbook is the opposite: a tool that sits between you and your work, makes today's set easier to capture, and turns the next five years of training into something you can read.

No mission statement beyond that. Log the set, keep the history, train with the people who matter.

Principles

What we believe a training journal should do.

01

Consistency beats intensity

Four days a week for a year beats a perfect training block followed by burnout. Every design decision in Logbook reduces the cost of showing up again tomorrow.

02

Your training history is yours

Every rep, every PR, every session: that record is the most valuable thing in this app. It's yours to keep, and never sold. We're a training tool, not an ad business.

03

Social should be small

Your feed is the clubs you joined, in the order things happened. No engagement ranking, no public timeline. Just the people you'd text after a PR.

04

Calm beats loud

No streak guilt. No notification spam. No gamification for its own sake. A serious tool for a serious habit, designed to respect the attention you give it.

Founder

Miles Miller

Founder · New Zealand

Independent founder building Logbook from New Zealand, and a D1 athlete. Started Logbook because every app I tried either chased engagement or stripped the social layer entirely, and the gym deserved better.

“Logbook is the tool I wanted for myself: a beautiful, fast, private place to keep a serious training record. If you train, I built this for you.”

About FAQ

What people want to know about the team.

Who built Logbook?
Logbook is built independently by Miles Miller, based in New Zealand. Logbook is independent: no investors, no ad business, no growth team telling us to add engagement loops. The product is funded to be a tool, not an attention machine.
Where is Logbook based?
Logbook is based in New Zealand and operates under New Zealand law. Visit logbook.net.nz for current iPhone availability and access to the web app.
Who is Logbook for?
Lifters who keep their own training record: powerlifters, hypertrophy lifters, CrossFitters, sports athletes, and consistent weekend lifters. If you have ever kept a notebook for your training and wanted a faster digital version that still feels like yours, Logbook is for you.
Why is Logbook called "Strava for the gym"?
Strava made cardio social by giving runners and cyclists a beautiful log they could share with friends. Nothing equivalent existed for the gym. Fitness apps either chased public engagement or stripped out the social layer entirely. Logbook is the middle path: serious training record, private by default, small social layer for the people who matter.
How does Logbook make money?
Logbook has a free tier that covers the core training journal: logging, history and PRs, and clubs. Logbook Pro is an optional subscription, monthly or yearly, that unlocks deeper analytics and a higher daily limit on the AI Coach. Revenue comes from Pro, never from ads, never from selling training data. The model is closer to a high-quality utility than a social network.
